I heard a news item that suggested that the Holocaust has been forgotten by the current generation. In an informal test I asked two girls who work in our place what the words "Belsen" meant to them. Neither had any clue. I followed up with "Treblinka, Buchenwald and Dachau" resulting in blank looks. They had, however, both heard of Auschwitz. They are both 22 years of age. Obviously, history is a neglected subject in schools.

The vast majority of 20 year old Chinese have no idea what Tiennamen Square is other than a place.

That is pobably more due to censorship in China, in Europe there is no excuse for the not learning the lessons of history, it would be interesting to know if they have heard of Srebrenica....
