heard from reliable sources in the US that The Colonel is on his deathbead and is preparing himself for his rise to Valhalla.
May he rest in peace.

That is sad news. The Colonel made a vast contribution to the study of the self-protection pistol. I graduated from two of his programs, and spent many hours talking to him on ranges in Austria, Rhodesia, South Africa and England. I learned so much from him.

My thoughts are with Janelle and the family at this time.

Of the many books the Colonel penned I'd especially recommend Principles of Personal Defence, the first treatise on the Mindset and Tactical aspects of self-protection:

Well that's another of the good guys in Valhalla.
The Colonel virtually spoke in quotes, so let's put some of his most pithy here in this thread.....
"We should afford terrorists all the mercy we give to the rabies virus"
He will be missed.

My favourite Den,
" If you don't understand weapons you don't understand fighting. If you don't understand fighting you don't understand war. If you don't understand war you don't understand history. If you don't understand history, you might as well live with your head in a sack."
Lt.Col Jeff Cooper. R.I.P

Here's a very characteristic photo of the Colonel, taken in 1988
He is using his trademark Colt .45 auto, in his version of the Weaver Stance.
Cheers,

www.CqbServices.comOne of The Colonel's better quotes:
"One bleeding-heart type asked me in a recent interview if I did not agree that 'violence begets violence.' I told him that it is my earnest endeavor to see that it does. I would like very much to ensure--and in some cases I have--that any man who offers violence to his fellow citizen begets a whole lot more in return than he can enjoy."

Here's another quote from the Colonel, which deserves pondering....
"If you are thinking properly when confronted with lethal force, your shooting technique hardly matters. It is important, however, to understand proper shooting technique in order to instill confidence, because confidence is an important element of proper mind-set. Thus it is well to teach the student how to shoot in order for him to do things right when the need arises".

A public memorial service will be held on May 10, 2007 at the NRA Whittington Center, Raton, NM, because of the number of people expected. The service will begin about 1:30 on that date in the "Coors Range Building.
