Tried posting this earlier...not sure what happened.
Picked it up over here that an EOD expert died in Afghanistan. I'm sure it's big news there (I was forwarded a piece from the Times)...if not, and you need links, let me know.

A good article/obit on S-sgt Schmid here The word "hero" is much misused these days, especially when referring to sports celebrities. However, there is no doubt that Olaf Schmid was a true hero.
