While Slacky and I were waiting at the gate to board a flight from Atlanta to Minneapolis, they called for First Class passengers to board first. There were two military guys, in cammo, waiting, and the gate agent announced that they should board now... "you're military and board with the First Class" A small thing but it shows that the guys are appreciated. Many of the waiting passengers thanked the guys for their service too.

That's brilliant. And so we should all pay such respect.

Differences of perception and outlook in America and the UK both of and within the forces are quite stark at times. Some of the differences I feel are for the better or at least appropriate and some, like the above, a bit of a shame. You never get the above happening in the UK.

A friend of mines unit were on exercise in the US. The were returning via Civilian airways and on route to the airport they stopped of at a McDonalds. One of the other customers in the queue when joined by a fairly large group of fairly solid looking foreigners asked who they all were. When he was told they were all British Army he insisted on paying for everyones food.

Can't think of another country where that would happen.

Got to add that in my opinion, the Americans have us beaten in that side of attitude.
