Hello, just a brief introduction from myself...
My name is Steven, I am 24 and have been training MMA with Willie Scott at Alba Dornadair in Edinburgh for 2 years now, which I do as a bit of a hobby, a bit of fun. Seeing the twinkle in his eye when discussing self-protection aspects, I knew I had to get along and see what he had to offer in these regards, and it definitely inflammed a passion for the subject also.
I'll never profess to being physically capable in any way, but I will be honest and say there was a bit of me that fantasised away and thought "yeah I train a bit of MMA, I reckon I could give it a bash" but Willie's lessons were a real eye opener to the reality of what a determined attacker can do to you, and how quickly. Safe to say that even in my day-dreaming imagination I have no such illusions anymore lol. If I happen across a maniac like Willie (no offence like, lol) and he isn't trying to contribute to my development and well-being then... well I'd prefer not to finish that morbid thought. I still have a long way to go! However, I am keen and willing to listen, learn, and practise these things.
I was chatting to DenisMc about various aspects of self-protection and he steered me here. I will not have anything to add to most discussions I suppose, I have never been in a fight outside of primary school, but I do hope to take in some advice from guys who have been there themselves, made mistakes, learned from the mistakes and can give open and honest advice about what actions are actually effective and what is likely to get you repeatedly stabbed.
Thanks in advance.
Steven
