Today is the anniversary of the sudden and tragic death of our friend Gary Spiers, who passed away in 2001. Rest in Peace, Digger

Here's the first article about Gary, which I wrote for Black Belt magazine in 1972...

Gary's anniversary was this month. Doesn't seem like nine years have passed since we said "Sayonara" to the Digger. Here's the memorial plaque in at his resting place New Zealand....

Morning folks,
The links:
Gary Spiers VMA Interview :
His teaching style is wonderful. I particularly liked the description of one technique as "...take the jaw with tesiho, take the crown of the head and then rotate the jaw...consequently giving the customer 360 vision". Absolute genius!

Today marks twenty years since our friend passed away. Even though he's gone, he's certainly not forgotten. I conrinually meet people who knew him, trained with him, or, had heard the legends.
[Gary as a young man in characteristic pose!]
Rest in Peace, Digger

Again on this anniversary we think of Gary.... although his name does come up a lot throughout the year. Only this week I bumped into a guy who trained with The Digger, and we told a few tales. He cast a big shadow and is really missed.
