Today is the  anniversary of the Battle of Mirbat, where nine SAS soldiers held out against 400 enemy attackers.
"Old men forget: yet all shall be forgot
But he'll remember with advantages
What feats he did that day."

Apparently Mike Kealy died on the Brecon Beacons whilst preparing for a return to the SAS. Also, the close air support provided by the RAF deserves a mention.

That book I recommended, Storm Front, has a great deal on the air side of the battle.

Major Mike Kealy was awarded the DSO for his role as a then Captain at the Battle Of Mirbat and to my knowledge was currently serving in 22 SAS at the time of his death in the Beacons.

There is a pretty damn good account of the battle and surrounding political events called "SAS Operation Storm" by one of the surviving 22 members (Roger Cole). Not always great penmanship but very authentic.

Many reckon that "Laba" should have been awarded the VC for his courage at Mirbat.
He is honoured at Stirling Lines by his statue....

I've just finished reading Roger Cole's Operation Storm, a very good account of the battle and background to the war in Oman/Dhofar.

It also covers the issue of awards, Officer's receiving them and rankers not, from the accounts of the battle I have heard I agree that "Laba" should have been awarded a VC.
